'Idol' judge buzz: Brad Paisley, Toby Keith
Posted August 2, 2012
Maybe it's about time American Idol went a little country on the judges' panel, since it has churned out successful stars including Carrie Underwood, Scotty McCreery and Kellie Pickler over the years.
Brad Paisley's "people" are in Los Angeles this week for meetings with Idol producers to see about having him join the show, reports The Country Vibe.
One country star has already turned down the job. "They just asked about 14 days ago if I'd be interested in replacing Steven Tyler, and we passed," Toby Keith tells Inland Empire Weekly. "I don't really have the time on my plate," he explains, "and I haven't watched American Idol enough to know what I'd be getting into."
Meanwhile, Tyler tells Rolling Stone the job was "not my cup of tea." He says, "They wanted me to take the piss out of the kids and I don't have that in me. That's not what I'm about."
Regarding his two-season stint, for which he was reportedly paid $10 million a season, he tells Rolling Stone, "I loved it and hated it. It was a great job, I sat next to J. Lo and I made a ton of money. It was a moment in life and it became larger than life."
