TV tonight: 'Inventing David Geffen,' 'Covert Affairs'

Inventing David Geffen
PBS, 8 ET/PT, times may vary
American Masters' creator and executive producer Susan Lacy also served as writer, producer and director of this film -- a biography of talented, press-shy, and notoriously brusque media mogul David Geffen (as in Geffen Records and DreamWorks SKG). Among those sharing their stories (not all of them complimentary) about Geffen and his work are Cher, Warren Beatty, Tim Burton, Tom Hanks, Jimmy Iovine, Elton John, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Joni Mitchell, Yoko Ono, Steven Spielberg and Neil Young. Most TV outlets treat "biography" as a subset of "celebrity fluff." From American Masters, you usually count on getting something closer to the truth.
Ben and Kate
Fox, 8:30 ET/PT
The Fox comedies celebrate Thanksgiving tonight, which for the network's sweetest -- if not always funniest -- sitcom, Ben and Kate, means having Will (The Finder's Geoff Stults) convince Kate to attend her Thanksgiving Eve high-school reunion. Apparently, thoughts of the holiday may also encourage Ben and BJ to come clean with Kate about their secret, which could make for awkward dinnertime conversation. Like a lot of new shows this season, Ben falls into that broad mid-range of series that you don't mind watching, but you also don't mind missing. That's seldom a prescription for long-term success.
USA, 10 ET/PT
USA's entertaining spy adventure hits its season finale, as Annie heads to Amsterdam to save Eyal (Oded Fehr) and capture or kill Khalid. Or at least that's her plan. Now, let's hope her plan also somehow involves Auggie -- because an episode without an Auggie/Annie interaction is a lesser Affairs indeed.
