TV tonight: 'Grey's,' 'Resort,' 'Up All Night'
Posted December 12, 2012
ABC, 8 ET/PT
Enjoy all the new episodes of scripted network series tonight, because after this week, most of them are headed for their Christmas breaks. And that feeling of scarcity is compounded at one of fall's more promising new shows, Last Resort, which will return in January, but only to run out its last three episodes. Granted, the series did have some trouble finding its way after its pilot, but the larger problem may just have been the concept itself. The idea of a noble nuclear sub commander battling against a corrupt U.S. government might make for an enjoyable movie, but it always seemed like a very hard sell for a weekly series. Still, credit to ABC for taking a risk on something different.
Up All Night
NBC, 8:30 ET/PT
If you're a fan of Up All Night you'll want to watch tonight, as this may be the last time this about-to-be-revamped series looks like the show you're currently watching. When it returns, it will have a new plot focus and look, as it switches to being shot before a live studio audience. Let's hope the changes include better scripts that give the main couple some purpose in life other than to bemoan the changes having a child mean to their image of themselves as "hip" and "young."
ABC, 9 ET/PT
Is this the week Bailey marries Ben? As always, Grey's is keeping its plot twists close to its vest: You may have seen a picture of her in a dress, but that doesn't mean that dress is making it to the altar. Well, either way, as long as Bailey's happy. Because to paraphrase the saying, if Bailey's not happy, nobody's happy.
