'Wreck-It Ralph' director: Joyful wreck after Oscar nod
Posted January 10, 2013
There are hazards to receiving Academy Award nominations, as Wreck-It Ralph director Rich Moore discovered Thursday morning.
"My jaw hit the floor, it might have wrecked my knee as it dropped," Moore says, describing the moment of hearing his film announced for best animated feature. "All is well, but I might have a hairline fracture in my jaw from hitting the floor."
But the first-time nominee was simply "overjoyed" about the news and immediately started making plans for the Oscar red carpet.
"I've been talking to Ms. Pac-Man as a date. She's back on the market," says Moore, whose film is a celebration of video games. "She and Mr. Pac-Man split up years ago. It's been under wraps."
He has been to the Oscars before, in 1989, when Rob Lowe infamously sang with Snow White ("I'm hoping to see something as exciting as that").
But attending the show has some drawbacks, such as deciding on his outfit.
"I'm already worried about what I'm going to wear, especially the shoes," says Moore. "I have a tuxedo, but I don't know if it's good enough. Maybe I should get the Oscar tux, whatever that is."
And there's also his needy Ms. Pac-Man date.
"I'm going to have to bring some dots to lead her on the red carpet," he says. "That sounds like a lot of work."
He's looking forward to celebrating more immediately with his Disney Animation colleagues. That is, if he's able to drive in his excited state.
"Hopefully, I won't wreck my car," says Moore.
